This brochure-length guide, prepared by the Arts Education Partnership (AEP) with support from the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) offers three concrete actions—supported by low-cost or no-cost strategies—school principals can take to increase arts education in their schools. New CAAE Policy Paper on the Arts and Equity


October 2015 - The California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE)  has released a new policy paper titled “At the Crossroads of the  Arts and Equity.” The paper underscores the Alliance’s  commitment to its goal of every California student receiving  access to high-quality arts education. The paper highlights ways  that arts education strategies can support Title I and Local Control  Funding Formula (LCFF) goals.

 Excerpt from “At the Crossroads of the Arts and Equity” :

 “All children deserve an education that inspires them to discover,  to engage deeply, to think creatively, to hone their passion and  skill, and to apply that skill in the real world.”

The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) offers a historic opportunity for school districts to set new, locally-driven priorities aimed at improving outcomes for students who are often under-served in public schools. Arts education aligns with LCFF goals and contributes to a set of unique skills and outcomes that are shown to help students succeed in school and in life.

The California Alliance for Arts Education has created a set of materials and trainings to empower advocates to contribute to these important conversations, educating officials about the benefits of arts education.

Arts for LA, the California Alliance for Arts Education, and Los Angeles County Arts for All have created resources to assist LEAs in including arts-related strategies in their Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs). 



SMARTS - Be a Hero for Arts Education

California State PTA (CAPTA) works toward a long-term effort of increasing public support for a high-quality education that includes the arts.

Through their 
"Be A Hero for Arts Education" program, co-branded with statewide partner, the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), CAPTA promotes information about opportunities for increased arts education through the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAP), California State Standards, and Title I funding.

California Arts Education Alliance Student Voices Campaign



How would you make your school a better place? What ignites your creativity, imagination, and passion? 


In California, the Local Control Funding Formula, or LCFF, guarantees students a voice in planning and budgeting for their school district. 

The Student Voices Campaign is a creative way for young people to make their voices heard in their school district. Make a short video that shows your vision for your school and upload it here by April 1, 2016. We send it to your local school board, along with a message from you! Title I and the Arts​



California Alliance for Arts Education's Title1Arts.org

Title1Arts.org 
provides resources for school leaders who wish to embrace arts programming among their strategies for achieving Title I goals. It is intended, in particular, for schools with school-wide Title I programs, and includes tools for planning, implementing, and evaluating arts-based strategies in alignment with state and federal Title I regulations.
