This is a professional development training designed to give teachers and coaches strategies for guiding students in accessing the beauty and wonder of literature.

  • Form book clubs that give students ease in grasping the nuances of text structure and author’s craft so they can marvel at the joy in fiction and nonfiction reading
  • Use Notice & Note Signposts to navigate fiction
  • Learn how critical conferences and small groups accelerate students’ progression and engagement in self-assessment and goal-setting
  • Discover tips to support student writing of nonfiction while maintaining a high volume of reading
  • Strengthen the teaching you do during a nonfiction reading unit by bringing nonfiction read-alouds to life
This workshop will be punctuated by opportunities to experience non-fiction reading work firsthand and explore how students skills progress as thinking and texts become more complex.

All participants will receive the book, Notice & Note by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst.
