Writing Workshop: Units of Study (Grades TK-2, 3-5, 6-8)

7000 W Doe Avenue Directions: CA-198 to Shirk Avenue Exit. Head North on Shirk Avenue to Doe Avenue. Turn left on Doe Avenue, and enter the first parking lot on the right.
In this three-day institute, participants will learn the rationale to implement a comprehensive, research-based approach to writing workshop.
Workshops are held on 7/24/17, 7/25/17, and:
For Grades TK-2 the third workshop session is on Oct 3
For Grades 3-5 the third workshop session is on Oct 24
For Grades 6-8 the third workshop session is on Sep 28
Learn strategies to teach opinion/argument, information, and narrative writing with increasing complexity and sophistication
Deepen understanding of the California Writing Standards
Explore the use of mentor texts to foster a strong reading/writing connection
Discover practices that create opportunities for your students to write across the curriculum
Breakout sessions focusing on writing instruction in grades TK-2, 3-5, and 6-8 will be included during the institute.
Each participant will receive Units of Study for Writing in Opinion/Argument, Information, and Narrative Writing kit for their grade level by Lucy Calkins and Colleagues of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Columbia University. This is a year-long curriculum designed to help teachers fully implement the California Writing Standards.
