  • Location: Visalia
  • Address: 7000 W Doe Avenue, Sycamore Room
A balanced literacy program requires students to not only build strong foundational skills, but engage in reading and writing tasks that incorporate discussion and interaction around textual themes, contexts and concepts. Interactive reading and writing offer an ideal instructional setting for both readers/writers at all reading levels to develop skills for engaging with text in meaningful ways that support strategic action.

Participants will learn:
  • The role and value of interactive reading/writing in the classroom
  • How to develop and refine foundational reading/writing skills through interaction
  • How to plan, structure and deliver an interactive reading/writing lesson
  • How to support English Learners in reading and writing
  • Routines for management and structure
This workshop will be based upon the work of several leading authors including Fountas and Pinnell and texts will be referenced during the workshop. Participants will also need to bring a few favorite books for planning.
