Are you looking for ways to get your students writing from Day 1? We will focus on how to support our young writers through modeled, interactive, shared and independent writing. Leave with “ready to use” strategies to help develop skilled writers at your school.

Participants will be empowered with strategies to teach students in an environment focused on what writers need: Time, Choice and Response.
  • Explore the writing process
  • Teach variety of text types
  • Understand the qualities of writing including: organization, elaboration/development and conventions
  • Learn how matching strategies to learning targets will elevate students writing
  • Use mentor text
  • Help students develop strategies to build independence
  • Use mini-lessons to explicitly teach skills and strategies
  • Confer with writers
  • Implement sharing and celebration as a regular part of your writing block
Participants will receive a copy of The Writing Strategies Book, by Jennifer Serravallo.
